Strategically Positioned to Manufacture the Finest Flooring

Merrick Hardwoods manufactures flooring from the finest natural hardwood resource in America—Appalachian hardwood. With corporate headquarters in Merrick Hardwoods, Kentucky, and manufacturing facilities in central Kentucky, the heart of the Appalachian timberlands, our company is strategically positioned to give you the finest quality.

Vertically Integrated—from the Forest to the Finished Product

Merrick Hardwoods processes millions of board feet of lumber a year. Throughout our operations, including our own lumber manufacturing, and drying, milling, and finishing of hardwood flooring, we maintain control over the entire process. This is an important reason we are able to consistently produce quality products that we can be proud of and you can be confident in.

State-of-the-Art Facilities and Quality People

To achieve the uncompromising high quality standards that we make mandatory for our flooring, we continually invest in the most modern manufacturing equipment, paved lumberyards, computer-controlled dry kilns, state-of-the-art finishing lines, and dedicated employees. We believe that it’s our skilled and dedicated employees that ultimately make the difference in our products, service, and reputation.

Wood is an Environmentally Sound Choice

Merrick Hardwoods flooring is an environmentally sound choice because trees are a renewable and sustainable resource. You can trust that maintaining healthy and productive forests are our priority—not only are they essential to the world where our children are growing up, but our jobs, and the livelihood of hundreds of Merrick Hardwoods employees and their families depends on our forests. We support the Sustainable Forestry Initiative, requiring us to be responsible stewards of our managed timberlands by meeting independently established and monitored objectives on an ongoing basis. In fact, our commitment to this initiative is such a priority, that we are one of only a few major manufacturers to have a full-time forestry staff.

Merrick is a major U.S. manufacturer of unfinished flooring in Appalachian species. You will find our brand in fine retailers across North America.

Our vertically-integrated advantage means that Merrick Hardwoods supplies the kiln-dried lumber to our flooring division for the manufacture of unfinished hardwood flooring. This gives us tremendous quality control over the final product.

Merricks's Vertically-Integrated Advantage.

Merrick Hardwoods is a vertically integrated forest products company and one of the largest manufacturers of Appalachian lumber and hardwood flooring in the United States. We own and manage timberlands and are one of the largest lumber buyers in our region. By being vertically integrated, we are able to manage the entire manufacturing process—from the forest to the floor—producing the finest quality products while making the best use of our natural resources. We believe that’s an important Merrick Hardwoods advantage.

Here’s how we do it:

We are one of only a few major flooring manufacturers to own and manage our own timberland and to employ a full time forestry staff. They put together 100-year plans for the forest we own. We think it’s the right thing to do for the future of our company, our employees, and our families.

We manufacture kiln-dried lumber at Somerset Wood Products. Our lumber is used in the manufacture of Somerset flooring and is also sold to other lumber users.

The excess wood fiber and sawdust collected throughout the flooring manufacturing process supplies our state-of-the-art Wood Pellet Fuel division, where we produce premium grade clean-burning wood fuel pellets. Here, more than 50,000 tons of wood fiber and sawdust generated each year, instead of going to a landfill, goes to making an economical and environmentally-friendly alternative energy source. This, in turn, helps decrease our country’s dependence on fossil fuels. Somerset brand pellets are sold across the U.S. through major pellet distributors and retailers for use in pellet stoves.

We work hard to be a different kind of company—one that does the right thing, because it’s the right thing to do. This applies not only to how we treat our environment, but to everything we do at Merrick Hardwoods.
